Easy Quizzes

Use the AIKEN format to create simple quizzes quickly and painlessly for formative assessment purposes.

Facilitator: Peter Evans

By the end of the session, participants will have the knowledge and skills to:

  • describe how quizzes can be used as evaluation of student learning
  • create simple multiple choice quizzes

During the session:

  • Reasons for using quizzes- formative assessment and evaluation of student learning
  • Sensible number of quizzes to build into a course
  • Quizzes must be clearly linked to the course and not seen as an aadd ona by the students. Great way to integrate them is to set a quiz based on a lecture that tests student understanding of the material that was presented. Review their results and discuss common errors in the next class. Brainstorm other ways.
  • Quizzes as acontainersa to be filled
  • Organisation of question banks- organising into topics and naming questions with a precise name to make them easily identifiable later.
  • Overview of the AIKEN format.
  • Participants create a quiz and upload MC questions using the AIKEN format.

Advanced content (if time allows):

  • Creating short answer questions that can be marked automatically
