How to facilitate a variety of conversations
|
Facilitator: Peter Evans, Lauren Kane and Malcolm Pettigrove
By the end of the session, participants will have the knowledge and skills to:
- associate the types of Moodle forums with their most suitable application
- facilitate asynchronous discussions with students
During the session:
- Benefits of discussion boards as asynchronous communication tools
- Differences between the types of forums and their suggested uses, set up and use each
- Importance of teacher involvement
- How to kick start and maintain conversations so as not to have an empty discussion board.
- Managing student expectations in regards to your availability, netiquette and marking schemes if applicable.
Advanced content (if time allows):
- The aspect of privacy and the role of a teacher in their studentas group-work forum.
BIO:
Dr Peter Evans is visiting the ANU from USQ and is working with the Central Wattle team. Peter has many years of experience supporting staff and students with Moodle and will run these sessions for CECS with assistance from Lauren Kane and Malcolm Pettigrove.
