ABSTRACT:
Australia has an abundance of natural gas resources, and this availability coupled with the proven ability of natural gas derivatives, such as compressed natural gas (CNG), to be used as alternative fuel sources makes a strong case for the advancement of technology and components in this area. This seminar will look at the initial stages of the design, analysis, and potential manufacture of a novel CNG storage vessel for automotive applications. Innovative concepts explored include vessel designs for volume efficiency and increased service pressure, the usage of advanced composite materials for weight reduction, rapid flexible in-situ processing of fibre reinforced composites, and virtual analysis methods for cost reduction and rapid virtual prototyping.
