ABSTRACT:
How do we better invest in engineering and science from the school yard to the workplace?

After months of hard work APESMA has convinced the Australian Senate to establish an official inquiry into Australiaas current shortage of engineers. This is an opportunity we cannot afford to miss.

The Senate inquiry is an opportunity to address this crippling shortage of engineers and improve the communityas and governmentas understanding that professional engineers are critical to our future.

A recent Australian Government Skills report has found that the general engineer skill shortage was worse than any other occupation that they tracked. Although some fields of engineering are more affected than others, the skills shortage has major implications for the profession and ultimately the country. We need to act now to make sure Australiaas economy and lifestyle is not held back and if we are really committed to being the aclever countrya
