ABSTRACT:
In this paper, we present the optimal filter for the enhancement or estimation of signals on the 2-sphere corrupted by the noise, when both the signal and noise are realizations of anisotropic process on the 2-sphere. The estimation of such a signal in the spatial or spectral domain is not adequate. Therefore, we develop the optimal filter in the spatio-spectral domain by using the framework presented in the literature for filtering of signals in the spatio- spectral domain. The filtering of the signal in the spatio-spectral domain enables the proposed framework to take into account the anisotropic properties of the process. The spatio-spectral filtering is made optimal under the mean-square error criterion. The capability of the proposed filtering framework is demonstrated with the help of an example to enhance the signal corrupted by anisotropic noise process.
